About the Role
The Lung Cancer Screening Programme aims to facilitate early detection of lung cancer, ultimately improving patient
outcomes and saving lives. Following a review by the National Screening Committee, the programme is set for national
implementation from 2028/29.
This programme is available to people aged 55–74 with a history of smoking who are registered with participating GP
practices. Through telephone screening, patients are assessed for lung cancer risk using an accredited risk assessment
tool. Advanced systems help identify high-risk individuals, and where required, they are scheduled for low-dose CT
