state-of-the-art Paediatric Emergency Department at Sunderland Royal Hospital briefly comprises of an independent

paediatric reception desk and waiting area, 2 triage rooms, a 6 bedded high acuity area, which includes 2 high

dependency bays and an adolescent mental health room, a resuscitation suite, a 5 bedded low acuity area and an 8 bedded

short stay assessment area. South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust boasts the only dedicated Childrens Urgent

Care Unit in the region. Set up in August 2021, the unit is nurse-led and treats children who present with a range
